Commitment to BEE

Skip Navigation LinksNeotel|About Us|Sustainability|Commitment to BEE

The long-term success of South Africa requires that the historic imbalances in our economy are addressed. BEE is more than a set of policies - it is a necessary condition for economic and social improvement of historically disadvantaged people.

At Neotel, we subscribe to the legal, social and moral imperatives of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), which we believe will yield significant benefits for the company and all its stakeholders in the long term. We regard Successful BEE as critical to the success of our business. As a new business, we have the opportunity to start afresh without the burden of transformation.

We are committed to complying with the requirements of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) BBBEE Codes of Good Practice issued in December 2005 in terms of Section 9 of the BBBEE Act and will align with best practice of the industry in the ICT Charter in implementing BEE.

We seek strength in the diversity of our people as a driver for our Employment Equity policies and endeavour to play a leading role in skills development in the ICT sector in South Africa.

Much of the world's telecoms equipment can only be sourced from global vendors. We strive to support local and empowered suppliers and ensure the use of local sub-contractors. Our procurement policy follows BEE guidelines. We have procedures that facilitate the purchasing from suitably empowered companies, particularly SMMEs.

Our BEE Partners

Nexus Connexions and CommuniTel as our BEE shareholders have had an important role to play in directing the course of BEE policy development during the establishment of the company and continue to take the lead in this area.

South Africa is a country in which fewer than a quarter of households have access to basic fixed line telecoms and only a small fraction of those have broadband Internet access. We are conscious of the role our community service obligations and other corporate social investment initiatives can play in bridging this divide.

We are not only committed to BEE, but to a range of other sustainability programmes too.
