The much-awaited Geographic Number Portability (GNP) has now become a reality. ICASA on 22 April 2010 held a media briefing to officially announce the implementation of GNP. GNP also known as Fixed Number Portability allows the fixed line customers to switch from one operator to another, without losing their telephone numbers.
Now, the last phase of GNP, which allows individual number porting, becomes effective on Monday 26 April 2010.
NOTE: When you hear three (3) beeps while making a call, it means that the number you are calling is a ported number.
