MKHonto We Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) is a major group that was formed at the end of the struggle, its purpose being to represent the interests of the veterans of the struggle and their dependants. The MKMVA are primarily involved in a range of social programmes, but do participate in commercial opportunities to help find these activities. The intelligence Veterans Associations (TIVA) has an interest in CommuniTel via MKMVA.
The aims of the MKMVA include the following.
- Poverty alleviation amongst its members
- Creation of the job for its members
- Education support
- Empowerment of women
MKMVA have a base membership of 46 000, but given their aim to help the dependants of these members, they support a segment of society that is many times larger than its membership base. The membership is as geographically all-encompassing, as it is across the social spectrum. MKMVA have proven to be inclusive and embracing of fellow empowerment groups.
MKMVA will use dividends from Neotel to fund further initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation, empowerment of women and education.
